Mac on Main features artwork by Kathleen Usry
By Irish Alderman

Kathleen Usry is wellknown in McDuffie County but many people may not be familiar with her artwork.
Usry is a native of Thomson and grew up on a farm on Wire Road. She attended school in Dearing through eighth grade and then went on to Thomson High School. She attended college at Georgia College in Milledgeville and it was there that her instructor, Selma Irwin, aka Miss Science, inspired her through a laboratory school.
Usry received a bachelors and masters in Education and she first taught school in Wayne County and then wanting to move closer to home ended up back in Thomson.
She taught at Pine Street Elementary then at Norris Middle, Thomson Elementary and then Dearing. She taught gifted and then math and science. She loved teaching math and science as she feels one gives reason to the other.
