• Flag lowering honors fallen peace officers
By Linda Green

As a trumpeter played Monday, law enforcement from the Harlem Police Department and other agencies remembered their fallen brothers and sisters lost in the line of duty.
The Harlem Police Department, and 10 other agencies, lowered the flag in front of Harlem’s Public Safety Building at noon, saluted and stood silent for five minutes in honor of the men and women who died saving and protecting citizens.
Harlem, and representatives of the Grovetown Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Sardis Police, Waynesboro Police, Thomson Police, Georgia State Patrol, Richmond County Police, Lincolnton Police, Stapleton Police, Columbia County BOE and Wrens Police remembered the 43 peace officers who have died this year and the 108 who died in 2013 and before.
