• Uncle Dave makes ‘hot stuff’ from scratch
By Linda Green

Uncle Dave makes stuff. His stuff is made from peppers.
David Outland, 69, a McDuffie County resident, uses his homegrown pepper varieties to make pepper and vinegar liquids that are designed to “offer a different taste” to favorite foods.
The retired Thomson police officer and U.S. Army veteran started his pepper liquid enterprise in 1993 with a hot mustard paste. He perfected his technique and branched out to also making concoctions of green tomatoes and sweet banana peppers, cayenne pepper chips and cayenne pepper vinegar.
After he began to make the liquids and gave them to people, he decided to offer it for purchase at McDuffie Feed & Seed in Thomson.
But, before that, he needed a name. With the help of a friend, and utilizing his already established moniker “Uncle Dave,” the brand “Uncle Dave’s Stuff” came into being.
“These are not to be confused with barbecue sauces,” he said. “These are pepper liquids.”
