Pinned by a falling tree
By Linda Green

An off-duty Thomson firefighter came within inches of losing his life.
Raymond Brinkley, 58, was helping friends clear land on Randall Hunt Road on April 24 when the tree he was pulling with the tractor snapped and a large section went airborne, entered the tractor’s cab and pinned him in.
Firefighters from McDuffie County Fire Rescue, EMS from McDuffie and Glascock counties and the Thomson Fire Chief arrived on the scene.
A portion of the tree had to be cut away before firefighters retrieved Brinkley from the cab and began medical treatment.
Brinkley was transported to the trauma center at Georgia Regents University Medical Center with non-life threatening, but several serious injuries to parts of his body, said Chief Rick Sewell, as he watched the ambulance pull away from the scene.
