• Dearing dedicates playground
By Linda Green

The Town of Dearing wants its residents to think about health and fitness, and become active.
On the outside of the old gym, town and county leaders held a ribbon cutting to officially open a playground for children at the walking track on Saturday. The town created the track in 2013 for both children and adults.
Inside the gym, Jimmy Lane, a personal trainer, was conducting cardio-boot camp for residents and other interested individuals. He conducts classes on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. for those who work, and he holds a jazzercise class for senior citizens on Mondays at noon.
“These indoor exercise classes are a way to get everyone active,” Lane said, as he had the four women sweating and lunging at the hour-long Saturday boot camp. “It is a way to help the community. I am here to help them gain a healthy lifestyle.”
Lane said that people may attend one or both of the classes. “You can come as much as possible,” he said.
The bodyweight exercises also may be done at home throughout the week. “That will help you when you come for the boot camp class,” he said.
Lane calls his class’s cardio-boot camp to help people develop their lung capacity.
“Our lungs are the first things that leaves us. You get tired and think you cannot go anymore. If you build lung capacity, you build room to keep exercising,” the trainer said of his floor exercises, wall thrusts and calisthenics.
