• Local man to share cancer story on TV show
By Jim Wallace

A McDuffie County man will tell his miraculous story on a popular TV show next week.
Ray Silverstein, of Dearing, will be on “The Doctors” show Tuesday, April 29 on WAGT NBC-26.
The show mostly focuses on health and medical issues, as a team of medical professionals discuss a range of various health-related topics and answer questions from viewers.
The 70-year-old retired loan officer said he contacted the show two years ago after surgery. “Two years ago, I was watching “The Doctors,” and they cautioned that if a male was over 50, he had better get a colonoscopy,” said Silverstein.
“I called the VA Hospital in Augusta and one was scheduled.” The New Jersey native said it was truly a matter of life and death.
“They found that I was carpeted with more than 1,000 cancer producing polyps,” Silverstein said. “They said they had never seen such a case and they said that if I hadn’t come in, I wouldn’t have lived.”
