• Bulldogs secure three wins during spring break
By Jim Wallace

The Thomson Diamond Dogs didn’t get the same spring break that McDuffie County schools did and they made good use of the time.
The Bulldogs scored three victories, two of them region wins, last week. The Dogs were 4-1 over the spring recess.
The region victories made THS’ magic number one, and the Dogs could clinch good things when they face Dodge County next week.
Thomson dominated conference opponent Jefferson County, 10-1, on the road Tuesday.
The Dogs pushed 10 runs across the plate in the third inning and Aaron Hall, head coach, said he felt his team wanted this game more than the 6-5 Thomson win the last time the two met.
“We were a lot more focused going down there,” said Hall, whose team won the first game against the Warriors, 18-2. “They weren’t overlooked this time. We went down there and took care of business.”
Tripp Jones got the mound win, scattering only four Warrior hits, while the Dogs smacked 12 hits.
Austin Herkel led Dog hitters going 4-for-5 at the plate. Brian Smith went 2-for-3 and Michael Hefner was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Locklin Irby notched a triple while Herkel stroked a double.
