• R.L. Norris High School alumni walk down memory lane
By Linda Green

The halls of the old R.L. Norris High School were whispering as former students walked them one last time on March 22.
The students from the classes of 1963 through 1970, and students from Norris’ precursor, McDuffie County Training Center, came to their former building on Harrison Road to say hello, goodbye and usher in a hello to a new educational facility.
Nearly 100 alumni from the schools came together for a two-hour celebration in the auditorium/cafeteria to remember their historical heritage.
“We dearly love our old R.L. Norris High School,” said Patsy Hester Jones, a member of the class of 1966. “We have fond memories of this school, of our teachers who we respected then and who we respect now.”
The Saturday reunion was an opportunity to look back at the former African-American high school, marvel at the foundations that had been set for students’ lives and to look forward.
