Judge rules, Ivey is mayor
By Brian Bowden

With two-thirds of the Warrenton courtroom full on Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Michael N. Annis, from the Augusta Circuit, ruled that George Ivey was the mayor of Warrenton. The judge ruled in favor of Ivey, and his attorney Harold Jones, against a Jan. 8 challenge to Ivey’s election.
“It was a very close call,” said Annis.
Mayor Pro-tem Chris McCorkle and city councilmember Craig Hunter, among three others, filed a Petition for Writ of Quo Warranto back on that January date.
A Petition for Writ of Quo Warranto states that a person is required to show what authority, or right, they have for exercising some power. In this case, it involved holding the position of mayor in the City of Warrenton. The petitioners claimed that his residence was not within the city limits for a period of one year before running for the position, as required.
