Jo Helen Frazer
Jo Helen Ansley Frazer, of Thomson, Ga., went home to be with her Savior on March 6, 2014. She was born in Thomson, GA in 1934 but spent most of her younger life in Aiken SC. She married Nathan Hix Frazer, Jr. She was a retired Administrative Assistant from Georgia Regional Hospital. Jo Helen was a long time member of Sweetwater Baptist Church where she served in numerous roles including as a choir member, Sunday School Director and teacher. She also served many years as the Sunday school teacher for the residents of Watson Manor and Thomson Manor Nursing Home. Since the onset of her illness she has attended Second Baptist Church with her daughter. She served for many years as a McDuffie Regional Hospital pink lady.
Mrs. Frazer is preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Frazer, Jr., her parents James M. Ansley and Phenie Porter Ansley and brother, Gene Ansley.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Frazer Thigpen and her husband Lynn; her daughter Carol Frazer McTier and her husband Troy; six grandchildren, Joshua McTier, Matthew McEver, Hannah McTier, Paden McTier, Jenny Lynn Evans and Adam Thigpen; and two great-grandchildren Lillian Evans and Riley McEver. One brother, Hugh Ansley and wife, Ann, nephews Mickey Ansley and wife Becky, Terry Ansley and wife Sharon, Mark Ansley, and niece Jacqueline Ansley, brother in law, Tommy Frazer, along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Lester Jenkins officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends Friday, March 7, 2014 at the funeral home.

James Neil “Jim” Hicks
Mr. James Neil “Jim” Hicks, 66, of Stagecoach Rd., Thomson, entered into rest Mar. 5, 2014.
Funeral services were held Fri., Mar. 7, 2014 in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hicks was born in LaGrange, Georgia and was the son of the late William C. Hicks and the late Mary Moncrief Hicks. He served in the U. S. Army during Vietnam. Mr. Hicks lived in Thomson, GA most of his life and worked with Johnson Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac for many years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Terri K. Hicks; sons, Jeff Hicks and wife, Jessie, Parker Hicks; daughters, Natalie H. Coffey, Emily H. Reese and husband, Travis and 4 grandchildren, Joshua Hadden, Jailey Hicks, Jaxon Hicks and Anna Claire Coffey.
Memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund.

Edith L. Johnson
Edith Laverne Anderson Johnson, 64, of Hephzibah, Ga., loving wife of 40 years to the late John Edward Johnson Jr, entered into rest Sat. morning, Mar. 8, 2014 at her residence. Funeral services were held at Tues., Mar. 11, 2014 at Hopeful Baptist Church in Blythe. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Born to the late Mary Will Brandon Anderson and the late John Willis Anderson Sr., Edith lived all her life in this area and co-owned and operated Johnson Awning Company for 25 years. She was an active member of Hopeful Baptist Church where she faithfully served her Lord as a member of the choir and the Ladies Sunday School Class. She loved to travel, especially going on cruises, and to “ride”, preferably on her motorcycle, boat, or horse, as well as shopping for the grandkids. She liked being outdoors in nature and enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers, which she would name. Edith had an adventuresome spirit and was a child at heart, always enjoying every moment of life, laughing and having fun despite any of her physical maladies. Most of all, Edith was devoted to her family, loving and cherishing them above all else.
She is also preceded in death by four brothers, Carl T. Anderson Sr., Arthur Wayne Anderson, David Lee Anderson Sr., and Raymond Roy Anderson. Survivors include her six children, David Gerald Hutto Jr. (April), John Ed Johnson III, Rhonda Holshouser (Dennis), Rebecca Rogers (Bryan), Delores Brown (David), and Sabrina Crosby (Michael); two siblings, John Willis Anderson Jr. and Mary Yvonne Wimberly, both of Augusta; ten grandchildren, Kristin Sanders (J.D.), Matthew Holshouser, Joseph Holshouser, Johnnie Sanchez, Colby Sanchez, Brandon Hutto, Nathan Hutto, Megan Rogers, Allison Rogers, and Kaleigh Crosby; one great granddaughter, Aubrey Elizabeth Sanders; many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family received friends at James Funeral Home from Mon., Mar. 10, 2014. James Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Joey Portwood
Mr. Joseph Lee “Joey” Portwood, III, of Dearing, entered into rest Mar. 07, 2014.
Funeral services were held Sun., Mar.9, 2014 at Fort Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Phil Bray, Rev. Eddie Renew and Rev. Jim Martin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Portwood was born in Augusta and lived in McDuffie County many years. He was a siding applicator for Southern Siding. Mr. Portwood was a member of Fort Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean Portwood; son, Lee Portwood; daughter, Jessica Portwood; sister, Wanda Smith (Ricky) and aunt, Barbara Jordan (Billy); nieces, Christian Powell (Jason), Crystal Norris (Brett), Lily Craven; nephew, RC Smith (Randi); great niece, Emma Powell, Mallary Powell; great nephew, Brett, Jr.; mother in law, Becky Craven and brother in law, Scotty Craven.

Mr. Fred Reeves Jr.
Fred Reeves Jr., 66, of Thomson, beloved husband of Mrs. Muriel Reeves, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014.
There will be no memorial service or visitation. Curtis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William J. Rousey
William Julius Rousey, 91, of Washington, passed away Mar. 4, 2014. Funeral services were Sat., Mar. 8th at Independence UMC, Tignall, Ga. The family received friends Fri. at the funeral home.
Hopkins Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Barbara J. Setzer
Barbara Setzer, 76, of Danielsville, Ga., entered into rest Tues., March 11, 2014
at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Johnny and Lucille Herring, of Fitzgerald. Mrs. Setzer was retired from the Personal Care Home Industry and was an avid seamstress sometimes assisting at Pins and Needles of Thomson. 
Survivors include her brother, Jimmy  Herring (Rita) of Monroe,  son, Bill Cupp of Waynesboro, daughters Debi Chandler (Kenneth) of Danielsville, Linda Norton (Bob) of Danielsville, Robbie Shelton (C.A.) of Norwood, Dianne Bond (Tim) of Thomson. Grandchildren, Rusty Morrison (Lisa) of Glen Burnie, MD, Jessica Miller (Ric) of Gibson, Charlie Shelton of Norwood, Amber Redfern of Athens, Jonathan Shelton (Cathy), Melissa Hawthorne, Harli Stephens, Jessica Bond all of Thomson, Faith Cupp, William Cupp, Monique Cupp of Waynesboro and numerous great grandchildren and a host
of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Heart Association or your local Animal Shelter.

Crawford Tanksley
Crawford Tanksley, of Appling, entered into rest Tues., Mar. 4, 2014. Funeral Service were conducted Sat. Mar. 8, 2014 at Canaan of Galilee Baptist Church, Appling. Interment was at the Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery. W.H. Mays Mortuary, of Augusta handled the arrangements.

Kenneth Hubert Williford
Kenneth Hubert Williford, 61, of Stapleton, entered into rest Wed., Mar. 5, 2014. Funeral services were held Sat., Mar. 8, 2014 at Stapleton Baptist Church. Interment followed in Stapleton Memorial Garden Cemetery. James Funeral Home, of Wrens, handled the arrangements.
