Coach Turner resigns
By Jim Wallace, Progress Correspondent

Milan Turner tendered his resignation as the Thomson High School athletic director and head football coach to THS Principal Cecil Strong earlier today. In a one-sentence statement Wednesday afternoon, Turner informed The McDuffie Progress that he is “resigning to spend more time with (his) kids at Georgia Southern.” Repeated attempts to contact Turner by phone Wednesday afternoon for additional information were unsuccessful. Turner, 44, won a state title at ECI in 2007 and replaced the late Luther Welsh in 2011, who retired at age 79. Turner’s coaching record is 24-10 overall. The Bulldogs were 9-2 in 2011, 12-1 in 2012 (advancing to the third round of the Class AAA State Playoffs), and 3-7 in 2013. Jim LeBrun, McDuffie County School superintendent, confirmed Wednesday afternoon that he has received Turner's resignation from his teaching and coaching duties at THS effective March 31. "We appreciate Coach Turner for his contributions to the students and athletic programs during his three year tenure at Thomson High," said LeBrun.
