Briarwood Lady Bucs win four, Kency reaches 2,000
By Brian Bowden

Senior point guard Malia Kency reached a milestone that no other Briarwood athlete has accomplished before her. On Feb. 6, Kency scored her 2,000th career point against the Lady Jags of Thomas Jefferson Academy at home while she and her team went on to win with relative ease, 59-23. The milestone was reached, and surpassed, on a 3-pointer late in the first quarter as the crowd gave her a brief standing ovation. "Usually in a place like this, she would start as an eighth grader. So, she would probably have had close to 3,000," said Head Coach Keith Johnson. "It's pretty remarkable that she has done that in a four-year period."
Johnson and the Lady Bucs (22-2) bounced back from their one-point loss to Gatewood at the end of January with four wins in-a-row to start the month of February against Edmund Burke Academy, TJA, Covenant and a rescheduled Mon Don.
