• Unemployment falls in McDuffie County

At the end of 2013, the unemployment rate for McDuffie County was 8.3 percent.
According to statistics released by the Georgia Department of Labor on Jan. 31, the unemployment rate for the state, at the end of 2013, was 7.4 percent, and the national average was 6.7 percent.
Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December was down from 7.6 percent in November. The rate was 8.7 percent in December a year ago.
McDuffie County declined from 8.7 percent in November to 8.3 percent in December.
“This is a good improvement of 1.3 percent,” said Sam Hall, director of communications for the Department of Labor in Atlanta.
The last time McDuffie’s rate was as low, or lower, than December’s rate was in September 2008 when it was 7.9 percent.
