A potential no-shot at the end of overtime sent the Briarwood varsity girls basketball team home with only their second loss of the season, first in region play.
"I think it's frustrating when you are so used to winning and all of a sudden you drop one," said Johnson. "I definitely think we're the better team still." The Lady Bucs (18-2) lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Gators of Gatewood on Friday night, 49-48. The matchup, a potential preview of the regional championship game, came down to senior Malia Kency dribbling down the court with less than eight seconds remaining, running into traffic and dribbling off her leg causing the ball to go out-of-bounds. The costly turnover prevented the Lady Bucs from remaining flawless in region play. "We just got beat," said Johnson. "We had plenty of opportunities to win the game."
Offensively, it wasn't a strong performance for Johnson and his Briarwood girls. "We rely heavily on the three-point shot," said Johnson.
