Health insurance is an important item to have and it’s important to have coverage to assist in times of need.
Those two concepts were illuminated at a Jan. 23 presentation on the Affordable Healthcare Act to a group of citizens at the McDuffie County Library. The importance of insurance, the different levels of insurance offered through the Act and the government’s insurance marketplace were presented by Kimberly Jenkins, a health navigator for the University of Georgia’s Cooperative Extension.
Hosted by the Enterprise Community Healthy Start, members of the McDuffie Health Consortium and people from McDuffie County and nearby areas received information about the Act and instructions on enrolling in insurance plans.
The Affordable Healthcare Act was passed by Congress and then signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. The new law aims to reform the American healthcare system by expanding access to quality healthcare to the uninsured.
