• Police apprehend driver following chase

A car chase, followed by a a foot chase, on Thursday morning, launched a brief lockdown of the middle school and high school.
The schools were on lockdown for about 15 minutes after Thomson Police Capt. Jamie Bridges pursued a car from the Murphy U.S.A. gas station to the Old Norris School on Harrison Road, Jan. 23.
When Bridges forced the car from the road, the driver, and a passenger, ran away. The driver ran one way and the passenger ran in another direction. Bridges chased the passenger, but was unable to catch him. The police captain returned to his car, broadcast a description of the men and police officers, officers from the Georgia State Patrol and deputies from the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office established a perimeter around the area.
Police Officers Christen Adkins and Brian Addenbrook spotted the fleeing driver in the area of Willow and Mulberry streets.
