Armistice, betrothal, grouse and stridency were just some of the more trying words that students had to spell on Jan. 16 when Norris Elementary held its annual spelling bee. The 34 contestants, all students at NES, dueled it out verbally as they vied for a top-five finish and the right to move on to the county spelling bee on Jan. 29 at Thomson-Mcduffie Middle School.
