• Woman stabs police officer in the hand
By Linda Green

A Thomson Police officer was stabbed in the hand as he attempted to apprehend a knife-wielding woman who stole a truck.
Police Officer Jammie Smith was treated and released from the University Hospital McDuffie Friday after Benita West, 50 of Thomson, injured him.
According to Police Capt. Jamie Bridges, Smith responded to Anderson Street to investigate the theft of a truck belonging to Chris Green, who was working on Knox Street.
Bridges said law enforcement was on the lookout for the vehicle after West had taken the truck by pointing a knife at Green.
West reportedly took the vehicle to the Anderson Avenue Apartments where McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall, on patrol, spotted her.
Bridges said the sheriff provided West’s location and Smith arrived on the scene as the woman attempted to run away.
