The Lady Bucs (13-1) handled the Lady Gators of Gatewood with relative ease Tuesday night at home as they beat them 73-50, and earned their third region win of the season.
Briarwood came out of the gate at full speed as they went on a 7-0 run before Gatewood put up their first points of the night. With the victory, it pushes Head Coach Keith Johnson and his Lady Bucs winning streak to 11 games. “It’s a pretty good region start,” said Johnson.
Briarwood’s top scorer was Malia Kency with 31 points followed by Tiffany Pate’s 23. Kency hit three from behind the arc, but went a lowly 4-for-12 from the free-throw line. Pate went 9-for-11 from the line while bringing a solid performance down low for the Lady Bucs against one of their biggest foes. “Any team that doesn’t have a big girl inside, Tiffany just dominates them,” said Johnson. Also contributing were Kaycie Kersey and Kylie Guy who each put up six, Copeland Price with four, Cameron Stadler with two and Kate Wells with one. Kersey and Guy racked up four 3-pointers between the two of them which gave them their six apiece. “When we get at least a third scorer, we are tough,” said Johnson.
