A gunshot ripped through the air in Dearing on Saturday and a 47-year old man died from it.
The McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office responded to 250 Moore Avenue at approximately 3:56 p.m. and found Andrew James Funderburg, of Augusta, dead from the shooting.
After a preliminary investigation, the hunt was on for Matthew Thomas Cliett, 29, of Dearing. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement from Glascock County, Columbia County, the Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia State Patrol and its helicopter spent hours searching fields for Cliett after his red, Dodge Dakota pickup was found abandoned at Hobbs Mill Road and Radford-Culbreth Road in Dearing.
