A Thomson man was the victim of an attempted armed robbery in the parking lot of a Dearing convenience store Thursday night.
Deputies with the McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Thomson Police Department, agents and the crime scene unit of the Thomson office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation converged on Axons Mini Mart in Dearing. Law enforcement was dispatched to the scene at 8:50 p.m.
They found a victim, Quiltavious McGahee, 21, of the 400 block of Fourth Street in Thomson, a handgun on the ground and an absent suspect.
K-9 units from the Thomson Police Department were called in to track the suspect, who fled the area on foot. The dogs and their handlers canvassed town streets but were unsuccessful in locating the subject. The store’s parking lot was cordoned off by crime scene tape as agents from GBI examined the victim’s car.
