You'd be hard-pressed to find somebody that Thomson High School Assistant Principal and CTAE Director Mike Smallwood came in contact with that he didn't leave a lasting impression on during his 48 years on this earth.
"Mike was somebody that meant a lot to a lot of people and he had a long history in Thomson," said Superintendent of McDuffie County Schools Jim LeBrun. "He was easy to become very close to because he was a very friendly person."
Smallwood, who recently lost a troubling bout with a rare form of cancer, was dedicated to helping the younger generation in any way that he could.
"He loved kids and he gave a lot of himself to them," said LeBrun. "He always wanted kids to succeed and do well and I think he really did find his niche in the CTAE program."
