Fire raged in a Washington Road commercial building Friday night.
Just before 6 p.m., crews from McDuffie County Fire-Rescue Service and Thomson Fire Rescue were sent to 1758 Washington Road, the former Langham’s Clothes Corner Outlet.
When the initial unit arrived, smoke and fire were seen coming from the 4,400 square-foot building, which had housed Weathervane Antiques after the clothing business closed.
Stephen Sewell, assistant chief for MCFRS, said the fire started in the back half of the building. The rear half of the building, which was built in 1978 and is owned by Raymond Swan, was destroyed.
