• Thomson Company demo plan approved
By Linda Green

The building that formerly housed the Thomson Company will be overhauled to make room for a contributor to Thomson’s economic development.
The Thomson-McDuffie Development Authority has embarked on a long-term, in phases, project to maintain and convert the former clothing manufacturing plant.
The company closed in 1996 and the building on O’Neal Street is currently rented by Thomson Plastics.
The authority met Thursday for a project report and to approve a $70,000 bid from the Marks Demolition and Environmental Group, of Hephzibah, to demolish the exterior buildings of the old Thomson Company and clean up the area. It is estimated that demolition would take up to 120 days to complete.
