The Briarwood boys varsity basketball team lost a close one on the road Monday night in Siloam against the Patriots of Nathanael Greene Academy, 58-53. “We got out to a bad start at the beginning of the game,” said Head Coach Bo Fleming. “We just came out flat for some reason.”
Although the Runnin’ Bucs (2-6) man-handled NGA to get their first win earlier this season in November at home, the outcome was much different this time around. “That’s a game that we could have won, but it just didn’t go our way at the end,” said Fleming. “The officials called everything real tight.”
The Runnin’ Bucs had three starters foul out, one in the third quarter, and one starter that was out sick. “Foul trouble killed us,” said Fleming. “I had a lot of young kids play.” The refs seemed to be extremely tough on Briarwood in a season where they have had only one player foul out before this game, Dakota Reese. “We’re not going to make excuses for the game. It was officiated the way it was and you just have to play with it,” said Fleming.
