The Runnin' Bucs (2-5) put a halt to their losing streak on the road against the Jags of Thomas Jefferson Academy, 46-34, Friday night. They held TJ to eight points or less in all but one quarter, the first, when both teams put up 11.
"Defensively, we played well to hold a team to 34," said Briarwood Head Coach Bo Fleming.
Briarwood forced 10 turnovers on TJ throughout the entire game while minimizing their own compared to previous games.
"The difference in this game and the last couple of games are turnovers," said Fleming. "We didn't have any pressure bringing the ball up, which helped us and our turnovers." The majority of the game TJ didn't press Briarwood and forced them to settle for the outside shot. "Their boys didn't press and that was the difference in the game if you ask me," said Fleming. Early in the game though, Briarwood still tried to force the ball down low. "Our turnovers that we had were us trying to force the ball inside," said Fleming.
