Integrity, tolerance, commitment, ownership and sense of family are characteristics embodied by the man selected as Firefighter of the Year for Thomson Fire Rescue.
Deputy Fire Chief Johnny Crawley said those traits made the selection of Sterling “Bubba” Gibson as the 2013 top firefighter easy.
“This individual is always diligent, dependable and focused on the task at hand,” Crawley said of Gibson’s 27 years in helping protect the Thomson community, his teamwork and his contributions to the fire service. The selection was announced Saturday during Thomson Fire Rescue’s annual Christmas dinner, held this year at Faith Baptist Church.
“This means a lot to me,” Gibson said as he choked back emotion. “It means a lot to work with this group of guys. It is an honor to receive this. Words just can’t explain what this means to me.”
