The Briarwood varsity boys basketball team lost by a combined 74 points on back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday Night. The Runnin' Bucs (1-5) lost to the Spartans of Edmund Burke Academy, 43-79, and to the Eagles of Brentwood, 31-69.
"We should have played the games closer. We have to start hitting shots, that's all it is," said Head Coach Bo Fleming. "The good thing is, they're non-region games."
The scoring got out of hand quickly Monday night as the Spartans of EBA went up on the Runnin' Bucs 24-12 by the end of the first quarter. "We're just not a fall-behind team," said Fleming. "They hit a lot of shots and they buried us early."
The Bucs slowed EBA's offense down in the second quarter, but so did their own. EBA had 14 points compared to Briarwood's nine. By the end of the third quarter, it was 61-35 in favor of the Spartans and all but out of reach for the Runnin' Bucs.
