• Safety is paramount for nighttime Christmas parade
By Linda Green

Safety is of paramount concern for McDuffie County officials during the evening Christmas parade Saturday.
For the first time in recent history, the parade, under the auspices of the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce, is being held at night.
“We want everybody to have a good time but our main concern is safety for our citizens, our kids, and those who are participating,” said Gail Newsome, McDuffie County’s code enforcement officer.
The public should consider safety at all times because things do not look the same in the dark. “Perception is different at night from the way things are in the daytime,” she said. “We just want to make sure that there are no instances that will put a damper on anyone’s Christmas,” Newsome said.
The Dec. 14 parade was rescheduled from Dec. 7 because of ongoing and increasing rain.
