• Christmas parade postponed by threat of wet weekend
By Linda Green

The forecast for increasing rain on Saturday night has compelled the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce to postpone the annual Christmas parade.
“We have been watching the hourly forecast and it looks like Saturday is going to be relatively wet,” said Tish Chase, executive director of the chamber. “Keeping that in mind, we have decided to cancel the Christmas parade for Saturday, Dec. 7 and move it to next Saturday, Dec. 14,” she said.
The Christmas parade will begin at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14. “Everything else with the festival will go on as planned on Dec. 7,” she said.
The Depot Dash and the Festival Off Main will begin at 9 a.m. and buses ferrying people on the Tour of Homes are still scheduled to depart from the Government Center at 5:30 p.m. A tour reception begins at 5 p.m.
There are several indoor activities scheduled during the Festival Off Main. In particular, Shop With Santa will be presented by the Junior Women’s League, from 9 a.m. to noon, inside the old Security Finance building on Main Street.
At Mac On Main, Hailey Tam will present a “Sip and Dip” from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Across the street at the Y-130 Program Center, an obstacle course will be available for children and the shops in the Knox Shopping Center will be open to help citizens with their Christmas shopping.
“In case there is heavy rain, there will be indoor places that people may enjoy,” Chase said.
“The only thing that has changed is the nighttime parade and that is because of the increasing threat of rain,” Chase added.
