• Dearing track illuminated
By Linda Green

“Let there be light” said the mayor of Dearing when the town’s walking track was recently illuminated.
“We have been working on this for several months and we signed a contract with Georgia Power about six weeks ago and they put them in,” said Mayor Sean Kelley.
The town’s council decided to put lights around the track at the city park to help walkers feel safer.
“We have people walking late in the evening and in early mornings,” Kelley said. “It is lit enough to walk but not enough that it is a distraction,” he said of the halo effect that the LCD lights provide around the walkers. The lights were also added to allow for more use of the track, he said.
Currently, more than 50 people use the track within a week. The lights are spaced to negate complete darkness around the oval where four laps around equals a little more than a mile.
