• Driver arrested after police find gun and drugs
By Linda Green

A police officer’s knowledge of a man’s driving status resulted in a traffic stop that led to the seizure of marijuana, a gun and oxycodone on Wednesday.
Thomson Police Officer Keith Smith was aware that Deon K. Brown, 22, had a learner’s permit and when he did not see Brown accompanied by a 21 year old or older legal driver, he initiated a traffic stop.
According to Police Captain Jamie Bridges, the officer stopped Brown at the entrance to the Watson Street Apartments. “When Officer Smith approached the vehicle, he saw Brown with a lit blunt (cigar) which was marijuana. It was taken,” Bridges said.
The captain also said that Brown voluntarily handed over a quantity of marijuana and he was taken into custody.
