The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers capped the regular season Friday night with a decisive 49-22 homecoming win over Windsor Academy.
“We played a good ballgame. They gave us the defense we were looking for it and we blocked it very well. Our back ran where they were supposed to run and ran hard and picked up a lot of yards,” said Briarwood Coach John Osborne.
The Briarwood team is led this year by four seniors, one of which rushed for more than 200 yards against the Windsor Academy Knights.
Bryce Sowell, who began the season at quarterback then shifted into a wingback role, only carried the ball four times yet gained a total of 207 yards and scored two touchdowns. In the first quarter, he carried the ball twice. One of those carries was a 69-yard touchdown run. Again in the second quarter Sowell broke a long touchdown run — 68 yards.
