Marie Berry
Funeral services for Marie Bowdre Berry, 66, of Augusta, will be held on Fri., Oct. 18, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church & Cemetery in Appling.
The family will receive friends on Thurs., Oct. 17, from 6-8 p.m. at Thomson Funeral System.

Dorothy Petersen Downs
Dorothy Petersen Downs, 90, of Old Milledgeville Rd. in Thomson, Ga., entered into rest on Oct. 16, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 20, at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Garvin officiating. Interment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Mitchell, Ga.
Mrs. Downs was born in Ida Grove, Iowa and was the daughter of the late Henry Petersen and the late Elsie Dorbrenck Petersen. She was retired from the Department of Health and Human Services with many years of service. Mrs. Downs was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church in Thomson.
Survivors include her sons, Richard H. Downs of Thomson, Ga., Robert A. Downs and wife Kay of Hiawassee, Ga., Rodney L. Downs and wife Susan of San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Kathryn D. Bundy of Columbus and Karolyn F. Downs of Gracewood, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mrs. Downs was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Downs; and son in law, Harvey Bundy.
It was Mrs. Downs' request that memorial contributions be made to Boys Town, P.O. Box 6000, Boystown, NE 68010-9988 or to the Sweetwater Baptist Church Building Fund, 1606 Wrens Hwy., Thomson, GA 30824.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Scotti Gandy
Madison Scottland "Scotti" Gandy, 17, of Appling, daughter of The Rev. Phillip and Paula Gandy, entered into rest on Sun., Oct. 13, 2013.
Funeral services will be in Kershaw, S.C.
Visitation will be held on Thurs., Oct. 17, from 5-9 p.m. at Starling Funeral Home in Harlem.

Gemell D. Johnson
Pastor Gemell D. Johnson, 74, of Augusta Hwy. in Thomson, Ga., entered into rest on Oct. 14, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thurs., Oct. 17, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Ferrell and Rev. William Swink officiating. Interment will follow in the Dearing Cemetery.
Pastor Johnson was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County, Ga. and was the son of the late Olin E. Johnson and the late Annie Mae Rabun Johnson. On Aug. 15, 1965, Pastor Johnson started Bethel Baptist Church in his home and served as minister of Bethel Baptist Church for many years at its current location. He worked part-time at Thompson Tanker and Ray’s Corner and he retired from Georgia Iron Works after many years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Davis Johnson; daughter, Rebekah Ann Johnson of Dearing; sons, Wayne Johnson (Pam) of Dearing, Tony Johnson (Debbie) of Thomson and Paul Johnson of Winder; sisters, Ira Dell Brinkley and Mary Ann Parrish, both of Thomson; step-brother, Joe Easler (Charlotte) of Grovetown; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Street Johnson; and a son, Ricky Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Chance Lonergan
Joseph "Chance" Lonergan, 18, of Harlem, son of Tripp and Kelly Lonergan, entered into rest on Oct. 13, 2013.
Funeral services will be held on Fri., Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. at Harlem Baptist Church. Interment will be in Harlem Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thurs., Oct. 17, from 5-9 p.m. at Starling Funeral Home in Harlem.

Edith Stewart
Edith Atchison Stewart, 89, of Crawfordville, entered into rest on Oct. 16, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Fri., Oct. 18, at Jennings Baptist Church & Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Beggs Funeral Home in Thomson.

Jesse Wilson
Jesse Ray Wilson, of Harlem, husband of Eloise Wilson, entered into rest on Oct. 15, 2013.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. At his request, his body was donated to GRU.
Thomas L. King Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
