Briarwood Academy controlled the pace of the game Friday as they drove to 20 first downs in the 38-6 win over the visiting Central Fellowship Christian Academy Lancers.
The game marked Briarwood’s entrance into region play. Overall the Bucs are 4-2. Now 1-0 in the region, the next four games will all be against region opponents.
Again Friday night, two Briarwood backs rushed for more than 100 yards apiece, but the Bucs’ passing game now has taken shape and contributed three touchdowns.
“I think we played well,” said Briarwood Coach John Osborne. “The line’s blocking and the offense is doing good right now. We also played well on defense.”
After holding the Lancers to just four plays in the evening’s first series, the Bucs mounted a steady drive to cover 65 yards. The drive ended with a 4-yard touchdown run by Tad McCorkle. With Tully Frost adding the kick, the Bucs took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.
