Briarwood Academy’s middle school Bucs suffered their first lost Thursday night, 25-12, to Gatewood Schools.
“I could not be prouder of my team’s effort. We laid it all on the line and just came up short. They are a good football team and well coached. We will come back this week and get ready for Edmund Burke,” said Briarwood Coach Bo Fleming. “I want to thank all the Briarwood fans for overwhelming support on Thursday night. They really helped our kids out and created a great atmosphere.”
The Gators got on the board first after forcing a Bucs’ punt. Two plays later Gatewood’s quarterback scored on an option run from 65 yards out. The extra point was good, making the score 7-0 with 4:34 left in the first quarter.
The Bucs responded on their next possession. On the first play, Dylan Reese scored on a 53-yard touchdown run. The two-point play failed, making it 7-6 with 3:45 left in the first quarter.
