• Man who was target of manhunt pleads not guilty

The man who was the focus of a multijurisdictional manhunt in the spring for burglaries was arraigned in McDuffie County Superior Court on Tuesday afternoon.
Jason Wayne Broome, 32, waived the reading of formal arraignment and entered a plea of not guilty in the court of Judge Harold A. Hinesley.
Captured on April 19, he was charged with four counts of burglary, one count of theft by taking and one count of theft by receiving stolen property.
Melissa Herring, the woman found with Broome when he eluded capture on April 12, was also arraigned.
She pled not guilty to four counts of burglary, one count of theft by taking and one count of theft by receiving stolen property.
