• DAR members encourage study of U.S. Constitution
By Linda Green

The 226th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution is being commemorated across the country this week.
The week of September 17-23 is Constitution Week and the Captain John Wilson Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, encourages residents of McDuffie County to become more informed citizens, know their rights and what the Constitution does and does not say.
According to JoAnn Smith, a chapter member and Thomson resident, the Constitution is a living document that has been tested over time on numerous occasions.
"The U.S. Constitution is the oldest constitution still in active use in the world today and is the basic document of our republic, which protects the individual liberties of all citizens through written law,” she said.
