It was fruit and vegetable heaven Wednesday morning.
Hundreds of pounds of vegetables and fruit were given free to senior citizens at the Seniors Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program giveaway.
It was a festival of color at the McDuffie County Senior Citizens Center as there were more than a dozen choices, including: potatoes, tomatoes, grapes, squash, plums, cabbage, peaches and more.
The program encourages the purchase of eligible, locally grown fresh products directly from farmers. These direct purchases increase the farmer’s share of the food dollar, keep more of the consumer dollar in local communities, help to revitalize rural areas and help seniors to better their nutrition.
