Troops from Thomson will now have school supplies, candy, balls and trinkets to hand out to children in Afghanistan.
Thomson’s National Guard unit which is part of the 1/214 FA BN, known as the Granite Battalion, which is headquartered in Elberton, is deployed in Afghanistan. The field artillery unit is providing base security for Shindand Air Base.
The unit adopted a local school in Afghanistan and was in need of supplies and other small items for the children.
Spearheaded by the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce, donation supplies were collected, boxed, and shipped earlier this week.
