An employee of the McDuffie County School System has been placed on leave during an investigation of possible criminal and ethics violations for an improper relationship with a recent graduate.
School Superintendent Jim LeBrun said on Sept. 13 that he received information about an employee on Friday, Sept. 6, which “concerned us.” He said that the school’s department of public safety began an immediate investigation but due to the nature of the allegations against the employee, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted.
Although LeBrun did not name the employee, the school to which the employee is connected or the allegations, he said the employee was placed on leave, effective Sept. 12.
Unofficial sources say that the employee is a female teacher at Thomson High School and that the employee was questioned by GBI on Sept. 12.
GBI Special Agent in Charge Pat Morgan confirmed being contacted by the school system's law enforcement to investigation an allegation. “There was an initial allegation of misconduct of a teacher involving former students at Thomson High School,” he “An investigation is ongoing and we don’t know if it will involve any current students,” he said. “We are looking into every possibility.”
“No arrest has been made,” LeBrun said.
