Amelia Gobble Harrison
Amelia Gobble Harrison, 67, of Cobbham Rd. in Thomson, Ga., entered into rest on Aug. 19, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 21, in the Chapel of Beggs Funeral Home with Rev. David Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be members of the Thomson Fire Department.
Ms. Harrison was born in Washington, Ga. and was the daughter of the late Henry Joe Gobble and the late Rebecca Strother Gobble. She worked with McDuffie County Civil Defense and retired from the Thomson Fire Department as secretary after many years of service. Ms. Harrison attended First Baptist Church of Thomson and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Godís Golden Girls.
Survivors include her son, Jay Harrison and wife Audrey of Thomson; daughter, Becky Cowart and husband Robbie of Rincon; sisters, Pat Thornton and husband Billy of Washington, Linda Reese and husband Bobby of Thomson; grandchildren, Harrison Cowart, Addison Cowart and Hayden Cowart. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Reid.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services for Thelma Jones, 66, of Wrens, will be held on Sat., Aug. 17, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Freeman Funeral Home. Friends and family are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m.
Freeman Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Rubye B. Miles
Rubye B. Miles, 104, of Thomson, widow of Floyd W. Miles, passed away on Sun., Aug. 18, 2013.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Curtis Funeral Home.
Lena Grace McClesky Rabun, 89, of Wrens, wife of the late Juddy Rabun, entered into rest on Thurs., Aug. 15, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 17, at James Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Wrens Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:30 a.m. til noon at the funeral home.
Jack Speaks, Sr.
Jack Dempsey Speaks, Sr., 92, of Thomson, entered into rest on Thurs., Aug. 15, 2013.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Mon., Aug. 19, at Hephzibah-Vance Cemetery.

Charles Walden, Sr.
Charles Richard Walden, Sr., 59, of Avera, husband of Emily Ellen Johnson Walden, died on Sat., Aug. 17, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 20, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church & Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Mon., Aug. 19, at Sheppard Funeral Home.
Jerry E. Whittle, age 72, passed away on August 17, 2013 at Collinsville Healthcare in Collinsville, Ala. A Fort Payne native, he was the son of the late Bertie Mae and W. E. "Ernest" Whittle. A 1959 graduate of Fort Payne High School, he attended Snead State Jr. College, Jacksonville State and the University of Alabama. Whittle was in the newspaper business for over 47 years. He was the former publisher of The Times-Journal in Fort Payne, publisher and part-owner of The McDuffie Progress in Thomson, Ga., and he and his wife Cheryl, purchased The DeKalb Advertiser in Fort Payne in 1992 and operated the weekly until their retirement in 2008.
Whittle was a member of Saint Philip's Episcopal Church in Fort Payne. Whittle was active in many civic and community organizations. He was a longtime member of the Landmark Board of Trustees, twice served on the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce Board, DeKalb Tourism Board, was the president of the Fort Payne Jaycees, served on the Boy Scout Board, president of Forest Avenue PTA and PTA council, a Rotarian and Paul Harris fellow. In 2008, he was awarded the V.I. Prewett Lifetime Achievement Award.
In Thomson, Ga., he was the president of the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, a dedicated member of the Thomson High Booster Club, and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Mon., Aug. 19, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Payne, Ala., with the Rev. Judith Comer and the Rev. Grady Richardson officiating. A webcast of the funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Mon., Aug. 19, in the Thomson First Baptist Church for Jerry's friends in Thomson, Ga. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne.

Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Cheryl Ethridge Whittle of Fort Payne; children, Kim Whittle of Fort Payne, Scott Whittle of Thomson, Ga., and Chris Stehle of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Austin, Kallan, Callan, A.J. "Jerry" Whittle, all of Thomson, Ga., Ashley Andrews, Lesley Andrews, and Layden Whittle Knight, all of Fort Payne, and Austin Knight of Ethridge, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Jakobe Dray Andrews and Aliyah Jade Andrews; father-in-law, the Rev. Forrest Ethridge of Fort Payne; several cousins; his DeKalb Advertiser family; a special buddy, Joey Knight; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Angel Leigh Whittle; and mother-in-law, Evelyn Ethridge.
