Students returning to school at Maxwell Elementary had an extra reason to be excited last week — new playground equipment.
Undeterred by soaring temperatures, children scurried up and down on the new equipment Monday afternoon at the elementary school.
“Primarily, the money for it was from school fundraisers over the past five years,” said MES Principal Donna Bennett.
The DES Parent Teachers Association funded a large portion of the new playground equipment designated for the pre-k students.
“We had playgrounds, but we had equipment that was older,” she said. Very few pieces of the old playground equipment were retained in the design of the three playground areas.
