Individuals who organized “Soar to New Heights” for cancer were honored at an awards ceremony Wednesday.
The people who organized the local cancer awareness event called Relay for Life were recognized during a lunch at the McDuffie Museum.
“We have been recognized as being one of the best relays of our size in the state,” said Bob Knox, who co-chaired the 2013 Rely for Life. “It is significant that we recognize survivors and encourage them,” he said.
Knox and Pam Edmundson chaired the Relay effort.
McDuffie County has excelled in raising money, increasing cancer awareness and recognizing that cancer is a virus, Knox noted.
The relay, held on May 10 at Thomson High School, had 43 teams and more than 1,800 individuals who spread cancer awareness, celebrated the lives of survivors, remembered those who lost their lives to cancer and united in community to fight against cancer.
