Home maintenance is continuous and homeowners should respond to the small things before they become costly.
Charles Tolbert, of All Star Home Inspections, provided that nugget as he provided tips on general home inspection and maintenance to the Kiwanis Club of Thomson on July 15.
"Maintenance is an everyday thing," he said. "Take care of the small things before they become larger expenses."
He provided tips on roofs and gutter cleaning, home foundations, heating and air conditioning units, and prevention of water damage.
Tolbert advised the members to change their AC filters monthly to effectively rid the air of particulates and to keep the system efficient. "Air flow is reduced if a filter is not changed," he said, while noting that 40 to 50 percent of an electric bill is from the heating and AC system.
