A McDuffie County native can now be called Father.
Jacob Almeter, a native of Dearing, was ordained into the priesthood of the Roman Catholic Church during a June 1 ordination mass at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Savannah.
The former resident of Adams Reeves Road grew up in Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He was schooled at Alleluia Community School, a multi-denominational K-12 Christian school in Augusta.
In his youth and young adult years, he embarked on a discovery of what God wanted him to do with his life.
“I’ve always thought about the priesthood,” Almeter said. “I felt the desire to become a priest but it took a while.”
