Donors needed to combat blood shortage
By Linda Green

The two agencies in the CSRA that supply blood to hospitals and healthcare organizations have issued a call for donors of all blood types to donate blood to eliminate a shortage.
Both Shepeard Community Blood Center and the American Red Cross are reporting that their supplies of blood and blood products are running low.
The Shepeard Community Blood Center is facing an 11 percent decrease in collections year-to-date and nationwide, donations through the Red Cross were down approximately 10 percent in June, resulting in about 50,000 fewer donations than expected.
According to Pamela B. Rascon, director of community resources for the Shepeard Community Blood Center in Augusta, the agency was down 25 percent in blood donations in the first 10 days of July.
