A group of 15 aspiring gymnasts gathers at the Y130 building twice a week to practice their moves.
"Gym Pups" is a new team of five to 12-year old gymnasts from McDuffie County who are developing their competitive skills.
The team is coached by Helen Patterson, a competitive gymnast for seven years, who has had experience coaching young gymnastics teams in high school and college. She is assisted by Heather Davis.
The Gym Pups train twice a week for three hours at each practice session. The girls are preparing for their competition season which begins in August and goes through November.
"What motivates a gymnast is competition," said Patterson, who hopes to take the team to at least three meets this season to qualify for State. "To qualify for State, the team has to have an overall score of 32 on two or more meets. Once they compete at State, they will have the chance to go to Nationals," she said.
