A new McDuffie County Board of Education representative was elected during Tuesday’s special election.
Darrell Wells, who has 40 years in education, received 70 percent of the 262 votes cast in the District 6 election to fill the seat of Dexter Lovins who passed away in February.
Wells received 184 votes, while Jerry Randolph, a former board member, received 66 votes (25 percent), and Raymond Silverstein received 12 votes (almost 5 percent).
Of the 2,661 active registered voters, 9.8 percent voted at the district’s three precincts.
Wells was an assistant principal at Thomson Elementary School and worked in the Columbia County school system before being principal at Dearing Elementary for 26 years. He will soon retire after being principal at Augusta Christian Elementary School.
