Family and friends gathered at Belle Meade County Club Tuesday evening to salute an ace of a man.
A black granite memorial bench at the 17th tee honoring the late John Alley was dedicated in a 6:30 p.m. ceremony. Alley died in late January of ALS at the age of 77.
People rode in golf carts for the nearly 30-minute ceremony that included comments from family members and friends, many of them fellow golfers.
Bobby Cushman, a friend of Alley’s for nearly 50 years said he was a big help to the club.
“John did a lot of work out here,” said Cushman. “He did a lot of things and if it was broke he could fix it. It was a good pastime for him and he was well-respected.”
